The initial purpose of the club is to teach others how to crochet. However, as the club grows and members master the craft, the club will exchange patterns and ideas.
During the first meeting, the members learned the basics of yarn sizes, hook sizes, and how to make the beginning loop and chain stitch. As they mastered the chain stitch, some moved on to working on the single crochet stitch.
They voted to meet each Thursday after school in room 107. The meeting time is approximately one hour.
"We ran into one tricky situation today. I have never taught any one who is left handed. One of our members is left handed. If there is anyone out there who might assist this young lady, I hope you will contact me at 870-820-2894. Leave a voice mail, please," says Reep.
Also, the community could pitch in if they would like by donating yarn, crochet hooks, and patterns which will be used to create a crochet file from which the young learners can check out patterns.
The class welcomes both students, teachers, and staff to take part in the sessions.
Mrs. Ferrell and Mrs. Reep believe strongly that the crafts of women of the past should not fade away. Keeping these crafts alive in our youth is important.
