Hermitage Afterschool Program Serves Students

We are very proud of our afterschool students, said Mrs. Rita Courtney, 21st Century Program Director. The Hermitage Elementary Afterschool Program opened in 2008 with a grant from the United States Department of Education. It now serves 136 children, providing homework assistance, meals, and enrichment classes in sports, chess, robotics, legos, arts and crafts, dance, healthy cooking and many other subjects. This program provides support for children and families of the district. "Lights on Afterschool" is an event held in the fall to draw attention to the need for afterschool programs to serve children who are unsupervised and at risk each weekday afternoon. The "Lights on Afterschool" event for this year was held on November 6 from 5:30 to 7:00 at the Hermitage Elementary  School. Approximately 125 people attended this event. Various activities such as a cardboard box maze, cake walk, pie eating contest, bingo game, "ghost walk", face painting, crafts and other activities were enjoyed by parents and students alike.
