Hermitage and Warren Students Win Writing Contests Sponsored by WFGC Warren Woman's Club

The GFWC Warren Woman's Club recently held its annual poetry and short story contest in the Hermitage and Warren Schools.  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were chosen from the classes that chose to participate.  Each winner received a writing journal of their choice.

John Robert Ellis, a 6th grade student in Hermitage, wrote a short story "My Life in the Civil War".  He received a writing journal from the GFWC Warren Woman's Club for winning 1st place in his grade.  His story was chosen to enter the Audrey E. Swope Writing Contest in grade category 6-8 .  It will be judged in Little Rock in May at the GFWC State Convention in Little Rock.

Kaileigh Forrest, a 5th grade student in Hermitage, wrote a short story "Mia and the F".  Kaileigh also received a writing journal for winning 1st place in her grade.

Kristin Blankinship, a 7th grade student in Hermitage, won 1st place with her poem, "They told a Tale of Woe", Kennadie Etue won 2nd place with her poem, "The Song of the Slabve", and Derrick Avery placed 3rd with his poem, "Mr. Severe". Each of these 7th graders from Hermitage received a writing journal from the GFWCA Warren Woman's Club.  The pPoem by Kristin Blankinship was chosen to enter in the Audrey E. Swope Poetry Contest in grade category 6-8 which will be judged in May at the GFWC State Convention in Little Rock.

In the 1st grade poetry contest in the Warren School, Maddison G. Lipsey won 1st place with her poem, "Maddison" and Za'Kobe Ingram won 2nd with his poem, "Za'Kobe". Both students received a writing journal from the club.

In the 2nd grade short story contest in the Warren Schools, Heaven Cross won 1st place with her story "The Special Dress", Blythe Callaway won 2nd place with her story, "The Boy Who Wanted a Hoverboard", and Aryam Rojo won 3rd with her story, "Trick or Treat".  Each of these received a writing journal from the club.  The story by Heaven Cross was chosen to enter the Audrey E. Swope Short Story Contest in grade category K-2.

In the 2nd grade poetry contest in the Warren Schools, John Sawyer Murphy won 1st place with his poem, "Big Foot", Addison C. Lipsey won 2nd place with her poem "Butterfly", and Jackson Huffman won 3rd place with his poem, "Lady Bug".  They also received writing journals from the Woman's Club.  The poem by John Sawyer Murphy was chosen to enter the Audrey E. Swope Poetry Contest in grade category K-2.

In the 4th grade short story contest in the Warren Schools, Kolby James Pope won 1st place with his short story "My trip to the Moon", Reiss Cornish won 2nd with his short story "My Awesome Day With My Grandma and Grandpa", and Sarah Villeda won 3rd with her short story "The Hardest Mission".  They received writing journals, Kilby James Pope's story will be entered in the Audrey E. Swopes Short Story Contest for grade category 3-5.

In the 6th grade short story contest in the Warren Schools, Bryleigh Bickers won 1st place with her short story, "A Night to Remember".  Kailey Henry won 2nd place with her short story, "The Jock Cinderella", and Braniya Davis won 3rd with her short story, "Little Blue Riding Hood".  They each received writing journals.

The GFWC Warren Woman's Club encourages all students to be creative by writing poetry (no less than 8 lines and no more than 30 lines) and short stories (limited to 2000 words). The short story may be done in a one-act play/skit.  Save your creations and enter in the 2018 contest.  There is no limit to how many entries one may enter.
