Hermitage 4th Graders Make Butter

During the Expeditionary Learning in the Fourth Grade Classroom, students are studying craftspeople during colonial times, such as blacksmiths, wheelwrights, shoemakers and other crafts. This study also involves activities of daily life such as butter making. Mrs. Faye Ozment, classroom teacher, and Mrs.Gwen Huitt, GT teacher, shared childhood memories of churning butter, The teachers shared actual butter molds and churns used by their parents and grandparents. The students then made butter by shaking whipping cream in a small container. Everyone enjoyed eating the butter on saltine crackers.Pictured are from left to right are Mrs. Faye Ozment, Perla Ramos,
