PBPD Detective Sergeant Talley Speaks to Criminal Justice Class at SEACBEC

On 5/20/2016, Pine Bluff Police Department’s Detective Sergeant Brett Talley, spoke to SEACBEC’s Criminal Justice classes about his field experience in policing. He explained all of the various policing positions and the different divisions he has worked in through his years of employment with PBPD. He began as a PB Patrolman in 2003. He worked within many diverse positions throughout his 13 years of employment, such as a Narcotics Detective, the Burglary Task Force, Bike Patrol Officer, and Motor Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2013 and was placed back in patrol as a graveyard supervisor. A short time later, he was transferred to the Detective Division as one of the day-shift Sergeants and this is the position he now works in for the PBPD. Sgt Talley also is a member of the PB SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team and his position on the team is “point” or “shield”.
He mentioned to the students the importance of researching the different levels of Law Enforcement (local/state/federal) prior to entering the field of policing. Sgt Talley discussed a few incidents and crime scenes that gave a general overview of the things one would experience while working as a Law Enforcement Officer. He spoke to the students about the life long effects that are caused by drug usage. He explained to students about how trying or using drugs is never worth testing ones will power. Students enjoyed hearing Sgt Talley’s experiences and appreciated his visit to SEACBEC’s Criminal Justice classroom.
